I like this idea and perhaps this platform of subscribers is a more positive space to hold those conversations. I often feel overwhelmed by other social media where a discussion comment and replies get lost amongst the spam comment and “promote this on....” comments. It seems well worth a try and perhaps joy and community could grow from it.
I’m one of your older subscribers at age 66. I am only on Facebook and don’t do Instagram or Twitter. I just recently downloaded Substack so I could comment on your recent post. I learned my lesson on Facebook about responding to some posts. It doesn’t always go well. I appreciate you being willing to try the chat format. I enjoy reading the responses.
As with all these social media things you have mentioned, there is potential and risk. You never know what might be said by this person or that one. Idk if some rules would be advisable? Are most of your readers deep thinkers like you and enjoy a hearty discussion on topics you prompt? How do you receive and digest things that have critizising elements? Are you able to block blatanty awful posts? I wld love to have conversations with you as your thought processes often make me think about 'roads never traveled before.' 🤗
Your courage to 'dip in' is greatly admired! I have yet to post something on my substack page. Want you to know that your honest, soul-baring writs have inspired me to venture into the more inquisitive territories of my mind again. Especially your book! My courage fails me though at the moment 😔
I suspect many of my readers are similar to me in that they are deep thinkers but they *don't* enjoy *hardy* discussions on topics. If by hearty you meant heart-y, though, I think they probably do enjoy those kinds of convos. I do not have combative or debating readers and I think (I hope) that's one thing they enjoy about me.
I'm usually okay at being critiqued, although I don't appreciate hot takes or combative baiting to battle one another. I'm disinterested in arguing with folks, even when I potently disagree with them. I am able to block posts and individuals who violate any rules I might have. Although I suspect most of my regular long time readers don't need rules as they know what to expect in these here parts =)
I think it has potential. Of what, I don’t know yet. But perhaps each person can curate discussions more toward what makes them feel at home? Their interest? Safety? Etc.
Chat is not available for Android yet, is the message I get on my screen. I would love to try it

Hmmm. Yes. I like those thoughts, friend.
Thanks for inviting us to your Substack. I look forward to staying connected.
Of course =) Welcome here!
