Dipping my toe into the proverbial possibilities
A private space for us to converse and connect?
The sky has been falling for a while over on Twitter and FB, which is just to say I don’t think I’m a Chicken Little freaking out about it. I’ve tried to make those spaces as passive for me as possible these days which will not come as a surprise to any of you. I’m tentatively curious about what this “new subscriber chat” function might look like on Substack. I say “tentatively curious” on purpose because, as always, I want to set all our expectations low and not promise what I can’t deliver ;)
What do you think about this? Think it has potential? One of my favorite bits of Instagram is the Q&A function but I’ve been using it less and less because I think I like using Instagram primarily as a beauty/art/maker touchpoint. Could this replace that element? Would you want it to? What do you think?
Substack wants me to post “short prompts, thoughts, and updates that come my way,” encouraging you to “jump into the discussion,” which to me feels a bit like old school social media—good or bad, depending on how you look at it.
Anyway, I’m down for trying it if you’re down for being honest about what you think about it =)
To join our chat, you’ll need to download the Substack app (messages are sent via the app, not email).
How to get started
Download the app by clicking this link or the button below. Chat is only on iOS for now, but chat is coming to the Android app soon.
Open the app and tap the Chat icon. It looks like two bubbles in the bottom bar, and you’ll see a row for my chat inside.
That’s it! Jump into my thread to say hi, and if you have any issues, check out Substack’s FAQ.
I’ve already started my first chat thread so come on over and say hello!
Thanks for inviting us to your Substack. I look forward to staying connected.
I’m one of your older subscribers at age 66. I am only on Facebook and don’t do Instagram or Twitter. I just recently downloaded Substack so I could comment on your recent post. I learned my lesson on Facebook about responding to some posts. It doesn’t always go well. I appreciate you being willing to try the chat format. I enjoy reading the responses.
