It’s that time of year when everyone is sharing their Best of 2024 lists. And don’t worry, my best books of 2024 list is coming soon (both here on Sayable and if you want to listen in on an upcoming podcast interview with Joshua Johnson on Shifting Culture, we’ll be chatting about our favorite books from the year). But it’s also the time of year when those of us who released books this year are in the running for various Best of 2024 lists.
One of those lists is from The Englewood Review of Books, which is one of my favorite places for finding good reads. I’ve just learned that The Understory is currently in the leading pack and I’d love for you to nudge her a bit more forward if you have a few minutes! It should take less than a minute of your time and it would mean a lot to me.

If I’m honest, there were some themes in The Understory I didn’t expect to be perennial, as in, I didn’t expect to need to reread my own words over the past four weeks and be newly convicted of the need for them in my own life. If you’ve been reeling in the past four weeks, and if you’re not sure how you’re going to make it through these next four years, maybe The Understory will help you. I’ve heard from so many readers over the past few weeks that they picked back up the book recently and were so glad they did.
If you’re looking for a gift for someone this holiday or want to add a book to your own wish list, might I recommend you choose The Understory?

Just voted! And I agree, I have just been slowly re-reading over the past month and finding so much that resonates with the way I’m feeling now and the kind of grounding I need.
Done!
