I'm a newer subscriber and gasped out loud when I saw the title/focus of this book! I have a huge fascination with forest floors and have always felt spiritually drawn to them. What a wonderful device for telling a story of restoration, rootedness, and flourishing. Just pre-ordered and can't wait to read it.
Hello! Newer reader here who's been resonating deeply with your writing since I found it. My husband and I are intrigued by the ADK retreat and seriously considering going, but since this post is the first I heard of it, I'm a little worried that we will rearrange our year's travel budget + vacation time only to try to sign up and find it full. Is there a way to dialogue with you more about the event before paying to register? (Feeling the scarcity mindset of a limited opportunity, "buy now!," in tension with the need to be prayerful—slow work—about joining this as total strangers.)
Hi Elisabeth! We would LOVE to have you and right now we have room for you. As soon as all the married rooms are full, we will close that as an option on the registration. There are a few "shared room options" with two beds in them, so in case you weren't able to snag one of the married rooms, we could always put you in one of those two bed rooms =) Let me know what other questions you might have. Also feel free to email me at sayabletheblog@gmail.com and I'll try to get you any of the answers I can =) Hope to see you there. Really would love to have you both.
I haven’t engaged directly with Barbara Brown Taylor before, so to find myself described by her in that interview took my breath away. A very C S Lewis moment - ‘You, too? I thought it was only me!’ What a gift at a very confusing, lonely time in my story arc. Thank you.
We will! We'll be doing it...a bit differently than in the past and I am so super excited to start talking about it =) Look for more information in April!
Help me understand the connection between BBT and L'Engle? I'm partway through the interview with Taylor now and oh my goodness, it is so wonderful. I also was deeply heartened by The Clearing article on writing process. Thank you for sharing these!
Both elders in the faith, both Episcopalian, both interested in science and art, communities and the church. They just seem like they belong together =)
I always wait to clear my garden in spring. I wish it was intentional, but truthfully I’m just so done with the garden by fall that I forget about it till spring. It does give me strong Secret Garden vibes though, and I love that.
Thank you for the links--many of them hit close to home for me.
I kind of love clearing away the bits in the spring too, and seeing the green shoots coming up from amongst the dead leaves. It feels like a treasure hunt!
Rebecca Solnit is a genius. Loved reading that. Even were it not about climate, the things she says about time and change - so true.
She really is. I love her work.

Yes. The first time I picked up An Altar in the World, I knew I'd found a new friend.
Will you have a launch team for your new book?

That makes complete sense! I've only just recently discovered BBT, so I haven't learned as much about her yet. But I'm quickly growing to love her. :)
Thanks so much for sharing Still Life, Lore! I'm grateful.
Always love seeing your pieces show up in my inbox. I read every one of them.

Oh good!
