I wrote this sometime last year and for reasons, at that moment, it felt too vulnerable to share then. I was cleaning out my drafts today and found it again, though, and thought maybe it might help one or two of you today. A question I’m often asked is, “How do you know what to share, what is yours to share, and what is too much to share?” Here are my thoughts on this.
One of the benefits of having written on the Internet since 2001 is that any time I want (or you want) I can dive back into those archives and read stupid things I’ve said or done. More than half my life’s kinks have been worked out in public, and not always in ways I’m proud of.
A less tongue in cheek benefit, though, is that in case I’ve forgotten how such and such felt or what so and so said or when such and such was, I’ve also got a public record of that.
This can be equal parts mortifying and gratifying.
