Here is a fascinating read about winter solstice in Ireland. There is a 5000 year old tomb in Newgrange, in which the rays of sunlight illuminate the inside just at the time of winter solstice. I am in awe of the builders, their architectural intellect and their spirituality, pointing towards a God who brings light to the darkest of places. Even a tomb.

I love the increasing darkness of this time of year, also. I find it comforting and quieting. I "turn a blind eye" as much as I can to all the Christmas craziness, and focus on Advent, the waiting and longing for our Savior. Thank you for your words that say so much of what I feel.

Oh, yes! So much of this resonates with me.

It sounds like you would so love the Orthodox Church's rhythm of the Nativity Fast leading up to the feast of the Nativity.

Here is a very brief write up on it if you have the time to read: https://myocn.net/we-need-to-learn-to-be-silent-make-this-nativity-fast-advent-different
