In the early days of 2023, I declared this year the Year of Health, and then, upon further planning, the Six Months of Health. The first half of my year would be finishing school, finishing The Understory, and going on our ill-fated National Parks trip. Beginning in July, though, health all the way.
In mid-2019, some shit hit the fan in our lives. I don’t want to rehash it here, but there was a trifecta in August of that year that really spun me out personally, spiritually, and vocationally. We ended up leaving the church where we’d met and married, where we’d been deeply spiritually and communally formed, and where most of our community was. It was the right decision for us, and especially for me because the personal, spiritual, and vocational issues that were arising were in some part all related to being a part of a highly visible reformed and SBC mega-church in a predominantly politically conservative area.
