I will always talk about this. I cursed this event in my life for a long time until I realized the way to get power over its place in my life was to start talking about it.

It changed the way I vote, the way I think about gentrification, the way I think about trauma, the way I feel about racial profiling, the difficulty of policing, mass incarceration, abortion, war—pretty much no value went unturned in my life after this event. The connections that had been invisible to me before were illuminated. I'll never call it good but I can say it ultimately produced good in me, and I hope it produces good through me. Thanks for chiming in, Liz.
