Recently I was doing some backend work in Substack and I realized that there are many, many, many of you readers who are also writers. It made me think, “What’s a way I can show some support to these lovely folks?”
Writing a book is hard work and it can often feel like a slog, and then since marketing a book uses completely different muscles, it can often feel like we work hard getting strong on one side of our body and then have to suddenly use the other side of our body and it feels weak. It doesn’t just feel weak, it IS weak. Writers are asked to wear two completely different and distinct hats these days and writing everywhere is suffering because of it.
I’ve always wanted to champion my fellow laborers and I haven’t always known how to do that since I just don’t have the margin to read all of their lovely words. But maybe I could simply expose the rest of my readers to some more writers and their work?
In that vein, if you’re a reader here and the author of a book, would you drop the details for your book in the comments below? I have a bookshop set up on bookshop.org and I’d love to “stock” your book in it so more folks can know about you and your work.
If you’re a reader and not also a writer, maybe peruse the comments below or head over to my bookshop and see if anything there delights your eye or piques your interest.
Thanks for being the best, all of you.
This is so thoughtful, Lore. I'm a new (grateful) reader of your work and in the thick of releasing a new book, Every Season Sacred, into the world: https://bookshop.org/p/books/every-season-sacred-reflections-prayers-and-invitations-to-nourish-your-soul-and-nurture-your-family-throughout-the-year-kayla-craig/19814663?ean=9781496477118
And here is To Light Their Way, a collection of modern prayers and liturgies for parents: https://bookshop.org/p/books/to-light-their-way-a-collection-of-prayers-and-liturgies-for-parents-kayla-craig/16432560?ean=9781496454003
As I try to steward words well, I never want to fall into the scarcity mindset trap. It reminds me more than ever to encourage fellow writers who are, as Madeliene L'Engle says, "feeding the lake."
This is a generous offer, Lore, makes me want to set up the same for my Substack community! ❤️ Here's the book I published in March, for mothers creating in the margins. ❤️https://bookshop.org/p/books/create-anyway-the-joy-of-pursuing-creativity-in-the-margins-of-motherhood-ashlee-gadd/18519576
As an aside, have you read How To Stay Married?!
