"Any kind of domination or control or abuse of authority is apparent to me in a way it might not be to others." So thankful for your words in this series, and this one in particular. As a daughter with zero relationship with her father through an entirely different set of circumstances, this quote resonated so much with me. I naively thought when my parents divorced when I was 21 life would finally be "normal" once he was out of our lives. Nope, doesn't work that way. The wrestling through triggers and trust issues will be with me until I breathe my last on this side of eternity. Thanks again, Lore, for sharing vulnerably, and giving words to what has remained unintelligible groans in my heart for a lifetime.

"I am deeply suspect of impassioned men, in particular, men who won’t listen to the perspectives of others, or men who only and especially show emotion when their ideas are being countered." Whew! I relate to this.

Lore! This is wild and incredible and beautifully written. Thank you for vulnerably sharing such tender places of your story. Please write a memoir?!

And also...it sounds bizarrely similar to Tara Westover’s “Educated.” I wonder if you have ever been connected with her or had the opportunity to chat? I’d be curious to know if your fathers were formed by specific similar influences?

Found my way to your posts from Notes. Reading your gun series, I’m impressed with the way you merge what you’ve learned the hard way about trauma (the body keeps the score) with the theology of (original) sin. Beautifully done. Subscribe button, I saw you here somewhere... ❤️
