Let's invite others in instead of sending a book out!

Dear, dear friends,

We are two months out from the release of The Understory and I cannot wait for you to hold this little book in your hands (it’s so cute and will fit perfectly in your hands!). This was my favorite book to write yet and the one I’m most excited to see in the world and I want to invite you to join me in welcoming this book to the world on May 21st.

When I was thinking about sending The Understory out into the world, I asked myself the question, If this wasn’t my book but just any book, what would I actually like doing as a part of a launch group?

What I’ve decided to do is gather us all into an email group where you will only get one email a week in the weeks leading up to release day and just after. That’s it, no daily Facebook posts, no daily tasks for you to do and check back in about.

You will also choose which one of three different ways you want to promote The Understory leading up to its release. Will you be a woodsy participant? A readerly participant? Or a social participant? For each option there will be weekly tasks for you do during the launch period, usually just one task per week.

There will also be a weekly zoom for all group participants, where we’ll talk through themes of the book with space for you to share some of your own reflections as you read. You can show up or not, it will be limited to members of the launch group but totally optional for you to join.

The tasks we will ask every single member of the group to do is:

• Opt into which of the three paths you’ll take into The Understory and complete all the tasks on your chosen path, starting with preordering the book. We will give you more information about each task in the five weekly emails leading up to and just after the release.

• Post a review of The Understory from the place where you purchased it.

As a gift for participating in the release of The Understory, you will get a digital copy of the book before anyone else, as well as a digital download of the gorgeous print by the artist Stephen Crotts who designed the cover of the book. In addition, the first 100 people to sign up will also receive a waterproof sticker and sew-on patch of the same I AM HERE design.
