I’ve been reading Watch for the Light this Advent season and really appreciate how so many of the essays make me Think, that they’re not just feel-good, forgettable blurbs. Do you have a recommendation for other devotional books that are just as “meaty”? 🙏🏼
Listening to your Spotify playlist now! Thanks for sharing! One thing that’s been helping me has been doing a short 12 minute workout- Royal Canadian Womens Air Force - my mom has been doing this for years (40 yrs!) and I finally started it myself and its a nice way to move my body.
Ok, I know this was not remotely the main point of this post, but whoever told you that taking Vitamin D3 was expensive pee doesn't know that D3 isn't water soluble (it's fat soluble) so you should ignore them completely. 😆 Living in Indiana I'm super deficient (like most of us winter dwellers) and my doctor prescribed it. Pro tip- take it with a meal that includes fat for best absorption!
Just popping in to say that Yogi's Honey Lavender Stress Relief paired with dark chocolate is a standby here. Getting outside helps me so much, and I'm grateful for it being less frigid. I have found the sparse forest particularly peaceful -- I like the green, but there's something about the way Winter strips it all down that makes me feel more at peace with my own life.
Here in Golden, CO, it feels greedy to complain about the winter light, but starting work and ending work in the dark is still demoralizing. I’m going to think about my own strategies and try some of these, especially the turmeric chai. I drink Barry’s Gold tea all day and hope you’ll try it (usually found at World Market and online).
Thank you for this. I don’t officially have SAD, but I feel the darkness and the difference in the light, even in San Diego. Advent/Nativity songs like the Wexford Carol mirror the feelings. This is a cover by Yo Yo Ma and Alison Krauss. As a family, we’d sing this on the 4th Sunday in Advent as we were lighting the last purple candle. https://youtu.be/yxDZjg_Igoc?si=2UMZySvIsRNR0MiA
Wonderful tips for living through the dark season. I am drinking the honey chai turmeric vitality tea right now—what a serendipitous moment to see it mentioned here!
1). I picked up Wintering a several months ago and been have saving it for the darker months ahead. Can't wait to read it! 2). This isn't medical advice, but I upped my Vitamin D3+K2 to 20,000 IUs/day (after also being chronically in-the-basement deficient for 20+ years) and am feeling significantly better. 3). I'm so glad you have that gorgeous light-filled office! 4). I've unabashedly embraced the 12 Days of Christmas since the pandemic and it's changed the holiday for me in the best possible way. It's so special. xx
20k! You give me hope! Do you have a combination D3/K2? Twelve days of Christmas is where it's at. One year we didn't decorate until Christmas Eve and I loved that. But we also had a lot of windows in that house ...

It's not devotional as much, but Flemming Rudledges Advent book of sermons is a beloved one too!

Lots of options of how extensive you want to exercise. No need to push yourself too much.

Good to know! Thanks for letting me know =)

This just made my day! Love Yo-Yo!
I’m glad you liked it!
Your office/attic is lovely! I’m finding lots of joy and decorating for Christmas these days. I may leave some lights up in January!
ahhhhh I think you've inspired me to find some suncatchers and prisms for my north-facing office with one window 🌈

Wrapping you up in warm light, friend 🙏 ☀️
Thank you. This winter feels like a dark one already. I need more light
So grateful for these tips, Lore. This time of year feels like it’s physically draining my body of light and good things. It’s brutal.
Me too. These are small things but they do help me. I hope one or two of them is helpful for you.

It is a combo! This is what I use (I take two/day): https://www.microingredients.com/products/vitamin-d3-plus-k2-mk-7?variant=43952005611747
Just ordered some. I'm running low on the ones I've been using and the combo with K2 is great! Fewer capsules to swallow =)
I hope they help you!! Keep me posted :)
