Really appreciate you sharing your thoughtful approach to lent this year. It sort of snuck up on me but I purchased the Prayer: Forty Days of Practice e-book (hello Google play survey $) and look forward to taking some quiet time each morning to uni-task in prayer. I've struggled lately to be still and present with the Lord, instead of sending up prayers throughout the day like flare guns and walkie-talkie messages. Not that there is anything wrong with that per se, but I would like to go deeper. That discipline has eluded me in a few areas of my life, primarily creative ones these days. Trying to breathe grace and compassion into those thoughts and spaces. Alongside you, Brittin

Thank you for sharing that documentary. I can't get the book in the country I serve in, but I was so intrigued and inspired by the message of the documentary. Praise the Lord.

As I recover from knee replacement (and hives!), the thought of removing something I enjoy in my life right now...I can’t even imagine. I can see a deeper walk with God in following your suggestions and am going to join you. Thank you for these - my slow walks around my neighborhood will allow me time to pray thoughtfully for each home I pass.

I have the Godspeed book and will be joining the moving Lent practice with you, my husband Brandon and toddler Isaiah :) Thanks for sharing that resource a while ago.

This resonates with my heart so much-- this invitation to be HERE, to be PRESENT, is exactly what I’ve been feeling & needing lately-- thank you for putting it into words. I’ll be holding all y’all in prayer while I walk my neighborhood this season 💛

I am starting Backyard Pilgrim as an ebook today and exploring the Every Moment Holy Lenten Journal for Lent. My mom was raised Catholic, and I grew up with stories of stashed of forbidden candy and other fasting. I am grateful for a broader, deeper perspective into the intention of Lenten and look forward to discovering where God is at work and a growing depth with him.

I was just looking at that Scott the Painter book on my shelf and wondering if it was what I should use this Lent! I will join you.

Hi Lore, I love the thought of 'here' and what 'here' means for you as you wrote this morning. It is food for thought for me as well as I ask myself those same questions.

Two of the books I have, as well as yours so I will be reviewing during this Lenten season.

Love this. As a mom of three babies four and under, doing another “thing” just isn’t manageable right now, but I think the season of lent is very valuable (although I’m a member of a very non-liturgical Baptist church), and I’ve been considering how to observe it in a way that leads to healthy contemplation and repentance but not shame for never being able to keep up.

Every year, Lent sneaks up on me, as it did this morning, and I scramble to find something to fast from, starting TODAY. Life is going really fast right now and I don't feel like I can remove much more (also a grad student!), except the small amount of social media I've been consuming. So modifying my devotional and walking time to integrate more reflective prayer sounds perfect. Thank you for the inspiration. I just ordered the book of Forty days of prayer!

I love the idea of being present and reflective as a way of fasting. Praying this Lenten season brings deeper awareness of our hearts and the way God is working to redeem and bring new life to them

I'm attending an Episcopal church after approx 40 years in the SBC. Lord willing,, tonight will be my first Ash Wednesday service. I've done a lenten fast before but never as part of a liturgical congregation. I'm trying not to overwhelm myself. Thank you for your words.

A wise old Anglican once told me that liturgy is better caught than taught. It lifted a lot of the pressure I felt to learn everything all at once to ease my discomfort. But I have found, seven years later, I am still uncomfortable and I am still learning. This, I think, is part of why I love being in a liturgical environment. Some might think the repetition becomes rote, but for me, it means I am always learning something new.
